Find Cass County Busted Mugshots
Cass County busted mugshots are available through the Sheriff's Office in Walker. Sheriff Bryan Welk runs the detention center, which has a capacity of 60 beds but often holds more people than that. The jail has been running over capacity for some time, and the county contracts with Itasca County for 40 extra beds to handle the overflow. You can find booking photos through the in-custody report, which gets updated on a regular basis. The Sheriff also puts out a daily warrants list and a most wanted page. All of these records are public under Minnesota law and free to look up.
Cass County Overview
Cass County Sheriff's Office
Sheriff Bryan Welk leads the Cass County Sheriff's Office. The jail sits at 303 Minnesota Ave. West in Walker. You can reach the Sheriff at (218) 547-1424 or the jail at (218) 547-7361.
Cass County faces a unique situation with jail capacity. The 60-bed detention center regularly runs above its maximum. To deal with this, the county pays Itasca County to house about 40 inmates at their facility. This overflow arrangement has been going on for a while now. The Sentence to Serve program gives some inmates a chance to do volunteer work in the community instead of sitting in jail. Work release is also available through the Huber Law at $140 per week, which lets eligible inmates keep their jobs while serving time.

Cass County Mugshot Laws
Mugshots in Cass County are public. That is the law under Minnesota Statute 13.82. Subdivision 26 says booking photos are public data, with a few narrow exceptions. Anyone can ask for a copy. You do not need to be involved in the case.
Conviction records stay public for 15 years under Statute 13.87. After that window closes, the data becomes private again. Arrest records without convictions are private from the start. The mugshot itself is still public, but the underlying arrest details are not always accessible if the case did not result in a guilty verdict or plea.
People who want their records cleared can file for expungement under Chapter 609A. The wait times depend on what you were convicted of. Petty misdemeanors and misdemeanors need two clean years. Gross misdemeanors take three. Felonies can take four or five years. Some offenses, like those requiring sex offender registration, can never be expunged.
Note: Inmates housed at Itasca County under the overflow contract still show up in Cass County records because the booking happened in Cass County.
Under Statute 13.03, anyone can inspect public government data for free. If you want printed copies, fees top out at 25 cents per page for standard black and white copies. The Sheriff's Office must respond to data requests within a reasonable time.
Cass County Jail Programs
The Cass County jail offers a few programs for inmates. The Sentence to Serve program puts inmates to work on community projects. They pick up trash, clear trails, and do other volunteer tasks around the county. It gives people a way to serve time while doing something productive.
Work release through the Huber Law is another option. Inmates who qualify can leave the jail during the day to go to their jobs. They pay $140 per week for the privilege. At night, they come back to the detention center. This program helps people keep their income and their jobs while they serve shorter sentences. Not everyone qualifies, though. The Sheriff's Office decides who is eligible based on the charges and the person's behavior. Violent offenses usually disqualify someone from work release.
